Fed v Sod

Now...enough crowing about our recent successes. Down to today's business - the French Open men's singles final between Roger Federer and Robin Soderling.

In all honesty we can't see past the Swiss star for this one. Soderling has had an incredible tournament with wins over Nadal, Davydenko and Gonzalez. He's in the form of his life.

The only problem is, we just can't see Federer losing.

He leads 9-0 in the head to head. In those matches he's lost just one set. In the pair's two clay court encounters he's lost just 11 games. Federer is chasing history - the career grand slam.

Everything is screaming out: "Bet Fed". Our difficulty with that is the price.

Betfair have him at 1.28 at time of writing. In other words a $10 stake will only return a $2.80 profit if he wins. Skybet have him at 1.22.

If you're happy with small, (relatively) safe returns then consider backing Federer to win.

We're not, though. We like to look for value - and a bit of fun.

So, if you really want a bet on the match, why not try this. Bet on Federer to serve the most aces.

Betfair have him at 1.54 and Skybet have got him at 1.57. Our logic is simple - Fed has served 64 aces in six matches so far in the tournament - that' s an average of 10.66 per match. Soderling has banged down 52 - an average of 8.66. Soderling might have a rocket but Fed serves smart.

Skybet have got a few other 'fun' bets that might tickle your fancy, such as the score in each of the players' opening service games. For example, you can bet Federere to hold his to 40 at 5, or take Soderling to drop his to love at 29!!! We're not really offering any advice on these types of bets as they really are just guesswork, but they might give you a bit of fun.

Whatever you decide to do today - as ever, good luck!
